The Business Support team and the Local Employment Initiatives team make up the Economic Development team. The purpose of the Economic Development team is to support the economic vitality of Middlesbrough.

The support is provided in four ways:

Business Focused

By providing support to Middlesbrough companies, the team aims to ensure that the existing business base located within Middlesbrough is able to maximise its employment and wealth creation potential, as well as trying to expand the business base through the attraction of inward investment.

People Focused

The team aim to provide support appropriate to the needs of individuals to help them either start up in business or access employment opportunities across the city-region and beyond.

Infrastructure Focused

By working closely with others within the Regeneration Department, the team strives to ensure that Middlesbrough provides the best possible physical and non-physical infrastructure to stimulate economic activity.

Image Focused

The team aim to improve the image of Middlesbrough as a business location, by stimulating local pride and changing outdated perceptions of Middlesbrough from people outside of the area.
