Scheme for financing schools

Every Local Authority has to have a Scheme for Financing Schools. This document defines the financial relationship between the Authority and the schools (except academies) in its area.

The Department for Education (DfE) provides Local Authorities with a model scheme, which they must adopt. However they can amend or add to the scheme, if they wish to reflect any local changes or policies. Sometimes a Local Authority has to make revisions to their scheme that is directed by the DfE.

All schools should be consulted on any amendments or additions to the scheme and they all have to be approved by the Schools Forum.

The current Middlesbrough Scheme for Financing Schools was approved by the Schools Management Forum on 14th February 2010 subject to consultation with schools and is available as a downloadable document below.
