Welfare rights
Welcome to Middlesbrough Council's Welfare Rights Unit
We are part of the Department of Social Care's Performance and Planning section and we play a key role in maximising benefit. We provide specialised, independent and confidential advice and representation on benefits and tax credits and we also target welfare benefits take-up campaigns.
We provide both a telephone advice line and an appointment based service at several venues within Middlebrough and we are able to offer full benefit checks so if you are not sure what you are entitled to or your circumstances have changed and you want to know what you can claim or how your benefits will be affected, you can get the information you need by contacting us.
In addition we produce a quarterly newsletter entitled 'Welfare Writes' and we deliver an annual programme of training on a wide range of welfare benefits which is available to advice professionals, advisers and Middlesbrough Council employees. We can also provide bespoke training to groups and organisations.
