Tower crane oversail licence

Any crane which is to oversail the Highway will require a Tower Crane Oversail Licence, and you will need to submit an application to the Local Authority prior to the crane's use at that location.  Details of licence fees and the relevant application form can be obtained by clicking on the files located to the right of this page.  You are required to adhere to the following guidance notes:

  1. Insurance:- The Licensee should ensure that they are in possession of a valid insurance policy for Public Liability to the value of £5,000,000.
  2. Indemnity/Liability:- The Licensee shall indemnify and hold harmless the Council against all liability, claims and demands whatsoever in connection with or arising out of the erection, maintenance, existence and/or removal of the hoarding, scaffolding, platform, handrail, etc, referred to.
  3. Works:-  Before or immediately following the removal of any hoarding, scaffolding, fencing, platforms, handrail, etc, the Licensee shall level and make safe the surface of the public highway, and shall indemnify and hold harmless the Council against all liability, claims and demands whatsoever in the event of an accident, occurrence, subsidence or sinking of the surface of the public way, or the execution or non-execution of any work, or anything whatsoever arising thereat.  All hoards, scaffolds, fencing, platforms, handrails, etc, to be erected and maintained to the satisfaction of the Engineer and his approval endorsed upon the licence.
