Between Dimensions: The representation of the object  - 25th November  2011 to 24th February 2012
Between Dimensions

An exhibition looking at still life combining wall works from Tates’ Collection alongside works from mima’s collection, bringing together two-dimensional still life works alongside three-dimensional objects.

The exhibition raises questions surrounding the traditional view of the still life by extending it beyond the canvas and considering the space between the second and third dimensions, a concept coined by Elizabeth Fritsch as ‘two-and-a-half dimensions’.

Selected artists include Ben Nicholson, Gésine Hackenberg, Vanessa Bell, John Bratby, Duncan Grant, Elizabeth Fritsch, Julian Stair, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, and Pablo Picas

The Peripatetic School - 25th November 2011 to 19th February 2012
The Peripatetic School

The Peripatetic School: Itinerant Drawing from Latin America
This exhibition presents the work of artists from across Latin America who share an engagement with the landscape, whether urban or rural. More specifically, they are concerned with travelling or moving through the landscape, and frequently with walking, which is combined in their work with diverse approaches to drawing.

The exhibition highlights the portability of drawing, its potential for teaching and learning, and its ability to move beyond the confines of the page. Explore the artists, artwork and context of this exhibition in greater depth in mima’s specially created peripatetic research space.
