Sector-based work academies offer training and work experience for up to 6 weeks in a particular industry or area of work. They're designed to support Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), Universal Credit (UC) and Employment & Support Allowance WRAG (ESA Work-Related Activity Group) customers by offering them training and a guaranteed job interview.
SBWAs are not run all the time but are done in conjunction with a company which has a need for large scale recruitment eg a new supermarket opening etc.
The course is designed with the employer and will last for a maximum of six weeks. It will usually consist of:
- pre-employment training of up to 30 hours a week
- a work experience placement
- a guaranteed job interview
