A blatant daylight fly-tip has landed the culprit with a court fine and a criminal record.
Samantha O’Kane was caught on CCTV dumping a double mattress in the back alley behind her Harford Street home in Middlesbrough in April.
When interviewed the 36-year-old admitted the offence but did not identify a male accomplice also caught on camera.
O’Kane was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice which she failed to pay, and this week (September 17) appeared before Teesside Magistrates where she was fined £120 and ordered to pay £349 costs.
Council chiefs continue to urge the public to dispose of waste legally and responsibly, rather than leaving Council Tax payers to foot the bill for expensive clean-up operations.
Residents are also urged to take responsibility for their own neighbourhoods and report the fly-tippers as part of an ongoing town-wide drive to stamp out the problem.
Councillor Janet Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Community Safety, said: “The message really should be getting through now that fly-tipping just isn’t worth it.
“Not only is it a selfish blight on the local neighbourhood and an insult to law-abiding residents, but it can leave those responsible seriously out of pocket and with the stain of a criminal record.
“This is another great result, and we will continue to use all methods at our disposal to stamp out this menace.”
Anyone with information on fly-tipping can email details to our team or call the Contact Centre on 01642 726001.
