Middlesbrough's pop-up Pride 2023 event held at Orange Pip market

There’s something for everyone this weekend at the Orange Pip Market which will collaborate with the Curious Arts Middlesbrough Pride event.

The popular town centre market attracts the best in artisan producers, independent street food and drink and entertainment – and September’s festival, held on Saturday, is no different.

After successfully packing out Baker and Bedford Streets this summer, the event will move the short distance to Centre Square with a pop-up Pride stage hosting performances throughout the day.

The Pride event will also feature a programme in Middlesbrough Town Hall, including performing arts workshops, a stage and a parade at 12pm – alongside events at Teesside University’s Student Union and Mima. The full programme is available here.

Saturday also marks Middlesbrough Art Week, which officially begins on Thursday September 26. One of the biggest events in the town’s cultural calendar, art week has grown year on year and includes a full programme which includes installations and performances across the town centre. You can find out more here.

Deputy Mayor Philippa Storey, Executive Member for Culture at Middlesbrough Council, said: “This has been another fantastic summer for culture in Middlesbrough.

“From Happy Rooms to huge concerts at the Riverside Stadium, visitors flocking to our museums and a successful programme of Orange Pip markets, Middlesbrough has proven it will always be the centre of the Teesside when it comes to culture and entertainment.

“Orange Pip and Pride on Saturday, promises to be one of the biggest and most joyous celebrations of the year. And I’m delighted that Middlesbrough Art Week also returns stronger than ever with a packed programme which makes it the biggest event of its kind in the North East.

“I’d like to personally thank our Orange Pip sponsor Perco, and our Cultural Ambassadors, for their support in allowing us to put on these amazing events.”

Orange Pip Market has welcomed Perco Foods UK - one of the UK’s leading food importers and distributors – as headline sponsor for the 2024 season.

And events like Middlesbrough Art Week and Middlesbrough Pride are supported by our Cultural Ambassadors Holiday Inn Express, Leonardo Hotel, Teesside University and Stagecoach North East, which have all donated £5,000 each towards a fund which helps organisers.

Among the events on offer at Orange Pip is a basketball competition organised by the Newcastle Eagles, outside Central Library at 12pm.

Those attending can, as always, enjoy delicious treats and handmade gifts from vendors or grab a seat at one of Middlesbrough’s micropubs and bars which are always buzzing on market day.

Alongside returning favourites, visitors can enjoy new stalls including:

  • Groovy Paws UK- Funky dog walking essentials for your pup.
  • Steel River Drinks- Hand crafted, small batch gin and vodka.
