Three Boro stars of the future learnt about the club’s rollercoaster history – and met delighted young fans along the way.

Law McCabe, George McCormick and Sonny Finch visited the Dorman Museum on Wednesday afternoon to take in the Boro Shirt Museum exhibition.

Visitors are taken on a journey from the earliest days of the game in Victorian Middlesbrough, through Ayresome Park and on to the glorious highs of the Riverside era – providing a fascinating insight into Middlesbrough FC and the social history of the town.

The trio also took in the My Boro, My Shirt exhibition – which tells the diverse stories of the club’s fans – before heading downstairs to meet young Boro fans and sign autographs.

The players were fascinated to hear more about the club’s origins, its flirt with extinction in 1986 and the amazing journey to its first trophy in 2004 and a European cup final in 2006.

Middlesbrough-born Law told the club website: “It was great to see and learn more about the club.

“I’ve been a Boro fan since I was a kid, but you don’t realise the full history behind the club until you see something like this.”

George, also from Middlesbrough, said: “I’d recommend this as a must-visit for all Boro fans during the holidays.

“There’s some real interesting items on display and there’s some fascinating stories. I learnt plenty I didn’t know before and wish there’d been a display like this when I was younger.”

The visit coincided with Togetherfest, a football themed fun day at the Dorman Museum which featured table and inflatable football, crafts and play trails.

Museums Manager at Middlesbrough Council, JR Bowes, said: “We were delighted to welcome Law, Sonny and George along to the museum and to see how much they enjoyed the Boro Shirt Museum, which has proven a hit with our visitors.

“Football has a way of bringing people together and it was brilliant to see so many young faces in the museum to meet their Boro heroes and learn more about the club they love.”

Entry to the Dorman Museum is free, and you can book tickets to the Boro Shirt Museum online or in person, priced at £3.50 each or £12 for a group of four.

The exhibition is open 10am-4pm, Tuesday to Sunday, until September 29.
