A brazen fly-tipper who hawked his services online has been hit with a court fine.
Trading under the name ‘Shift Your S**t’, Mark Testo offered a waste disposal service to residential customers.
However, despite being a licensed waste collector who advertised his business on Facebook, Testo was twice caught dumping large piles of waste on private land.
On July 5 last year, large piles of fly-tipped household and other waste were found at the former Abu Baqr mosque site on Park Road North.
Investigations confirmed the waste had been collected from the Langridge Initiative Centre and from a domestic address on Barnack Avenue.
When subsequently interviewed, Testo, of Hartland Grove, Middlesbrough, claimed he had met some builders in a pub who told him he could pay them to dump his business waste on Park Road North.
Appearing before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday (February 11), the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to fly-tipping.
He was fined £230 and ordered to pay costs of £582.50 and a victim surcharge of £30.
The court also awarded compensation of £190 to site owner Ali Bin Ali Luft who was forced to remove the fly-tipped waste from his land.
Councillor Denise Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Environment and Commercial Services, said: “Fly-tipping is a blight on communities for which there is no justification or excuse.
“We will always investigate where instances of fly-tipping are reported to us, and will prosecute where possible.
“We are determined to stamp out this scourge, and cases like this send a clear message to the perpetrators that they can expect to be caught and punished.”
Anyone with information on fly-tipping is asked to contact the Council’s contact centre on 01642 726001.
