Gardeners urged to make a blooming good effort

Gardeners in Nunthorpe are being urged to do their bit for Northumbria in Bloom.

The spring judging competition takes place on Monday, April 15 and organisers are hoping residents will help give the area a green-fingered makeover.

They're also on the look-out for volunteers for a litter pick on Sunday, April 14 meeting at Nunthorpe railway station and the Brunton Arms green belt area - 10.30am start at both meeting points.

A Nunthorpe Bloomers spokesperson said: "We've already been hard at work preparing the area but we would really appreciate it if residents could help by making sure their front gardens are neat, tidy and litter-free.

"On the day it would great if colourful garden pots and hanging baskets can be given pride of place as well."
