The experts have had their say – now it’s time for local park lovers to vote for their favourites. Middlesbrough’s magnificent seven - Albert Park, Stewart Park, Pallister Park, Thorntree Park, Hemlington Lake, Fairy Dell and Linthorpe Cemetery – picked up prestigious Green Flag Awards in July.
Now, the Award Scheme is asking the nation to have its say and decide which parks and green spaces should receive the People’s Choice Award for being the UK’s favourites.
Whether you enjoy visiting a park or green space to play football, walk the dog, exercise or simply get away from the hustle and bustle, if you think your favourite deserves to be in the top 10 People’s Choice then cast your vote.
Voting runs until Sunday, September 30, with the top 10 sites being announced on Tuesday, October 16.
Councillor Denise Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Environment and Commercial Services, said: “The Green Flags awarded to our fantastic parks are deserved recognition that they’re among the best in the UK.
“These important green spaces are valued and enjoyed by people of all ages from across Middlesbrough and beyond, and are a vital part of what makes this such a great place to live and enjoy recreation.
“They mean so much to so many different people, from parents playing with their kids to dog walkers, from Parkrunners to those just looking for a little peace and quiet away from the hurly-burly of everyday life.
“We know how proud local people are of their parks – now they have a chance to get online and vote for their favourite.”
Green Flag Award Manager Paul Todd said: “This year 1883 parks and green spaces met the tough standards demanded by our Green Flag Award Judges but we want to know which parks the UK public love the most. The People’s Choice award is a chance to show how much your favourite park means to you. If it’s worth shouting about, make your voice heard and vote now.”
