Race is on to become a World Parmo Championship judge

Love a parmo? You're in luck - the best job in the world has just been created!

An opportunity has opened up for a Teessider to become a judge in the 2019 World Parmo Championships.

The event, organised by Middlesbrough Council, currently has 30 restaurants vying to have their chicken, cheese and béchamel sauce dish crowned the best in the world.

Eateries from Middlesbrough, Teesside, North Yorkshire and even Brisbane in Australia are competing in this year's event.

Voting is now open on the Love Middlesbrough website and will run until Friday, October 25 after which the top four voted parmos will take part in the final of the competition held at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Monday, October 28.

The confirmed judges for the final are Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston, Teesside darts hero Glen Durrant, Craig the "Parmo Hunter", local Masterchef contestant Annabel Broome and BBC host Scott Makin.

Now a final judge is being sought and all you have to do is put forward who you think really knows a good parmo.

Cllr Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Council's Executive Member for Culture and Communities, said: "I can't think of a better job in the world for a Teessider than to be a judge in the World Parmo Championships. We're looking forward to a great night that should be loads of fun and a proper celebration of Teesside and its favourite dish."
