Retail, hospitality, and leisure relief

You could be eligible for retail, hospitality, and leisure relief if your business is mainly being used as a:

  • shop
  • restaurant, cafe, bar, or pub
  • cinema or music venue
  • hospitality or leisure business - for example, a gym, spa, or hotel

If you're eligible, you could get 75% off your business rates bills for the 2024 to 2025 financial year (1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025).

The most you can get in each tax year is £110,000 per business.

If we think you meet the criteria, we'll send you a bill showing 75% relief for the 2024/2025 financial year. However we may ask some businesses to make an application, so we can check they are eligible.

You must pay the instalments shown on your bill until your application for retail, hospitality, and leisure relief has been decided. If you do not pay, we may take recovery action.

If you do not want to accept retail, hospitality, and leisure relief, you can let us know by emailing ndr@middlesbrough.gov.uk. You cannot change your mind and ask to claim it later in the financial year.

You can find out more about retail, hospitality, and leisure rate relief on GOV.UK.
