Following the local elections in May 2023, Labour has taken control of Middlesbrough Council, with newly-elected mayor Chris Cooke leading 22 of his party's councillors.
The full political makeup of the council is now:
- Labour - 22
- MICA - 12
- Conservative - 4
- Independent - 2
- Liberal Democrat - 2
- Marton East Independent Group - 2
Following the resignation of two councillors, by-elections will be held in Acklam and Central wards in July 2024.
