Review of polling districts and polling stations

All councils must offer reasonable facilities for residents to vote in elections, and review these arrangements at least once every four years.

The latest review in Middlesbrough started on Monday 20 May 2024 with a public consultation which ran until Friday 14 June 2024.

The review is currently on hold due to the upcoming general election. We'll publish an updated timetable for the review after the election.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation. All of your comments will be used to inform our recommendations.

If you have any more feedback after the July election, please email elections@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

Current arrangements

Each ward is split into several polling districts. These polling districts decide which polling station you vote at. If necessary, we can add a polling district or change the boundaries of an existing polling district to take into account changes like new housing developments.

There are currently 69 buildings used as polling stations in Middlesbrough. These include church halls, schools, community centres, libraries, and temporary stations (portacabins). You can see all the current polling stations on the find my polling station page.

Our aim is for all residents to have reasonable, local facilities to vote in person at elections. This review may lead to changes to some polling districts and polling stations.

The consultation

The consultation ran from Monday 20 May 2024 to Friday 14 June 2024.

We asked what you thought about:

  • the location of your polling station
  • how suitable the polling station is (thinking about facilities, accessibility, etc.)
  • alternative venues for polling stations in your area

As well as residents, we also wanted to hear from:

  • local political parties
  • councillors
  • parish councils
  • individuals and groups with particular expertise in access to premises or facilities for people with disabilities

What happens next?

We'll consider all comments and suggestions received by the deadline. We'll then send a recommendation report to the Corporate Affairs Committee for final approval.

Once the new arrangements are approved, we'll publish the details on this website.

The review is currently on hold due to the upcoming general election. We'll publish an updated timetable for the review after the election.

The upcoming elections on 4 July 2024 will use the current polling districts and polling stations.
