Middlesbrough Museums has announced a jam-packed programme of activities to coincide with the school holidays.
Running across the Dorman Museum and Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, activities vary from a Pirate takeover to Big Science workshops, and Colourscape – an exciting touring installation that has wowed audiences across the UK.
Activities planned at Captain Cook Birthplace Museum
Colourscape: Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August
Explore a mesmerising labyrinth of interlocking chambers filled with colour and sound. Wander through the chambers and come across dancers and musicians.
Pirate Takeover Day: Saturday 10 August
Meet pirate friends and take part in swashbuckling activities throughout the museum, including games, crafts, an inflatable assault course and facepainting. Runs 10am-4pm, museum entry applies.
Big Science Workshop, Saturday 17 August
A fun-filled science workshop with hands-on experiments and live demos.
Marton Hall Exhibition, on display until 29 September
Delve into history of Marton Hall from the grand design and estate of Henry Bolckow to the misfortune that followed.
Activities planned at Dorman Museum
Reptile Encounters, Saturday 24 August
A pop-up reptile zoo with a variety of slimy, slithery, cute and cuddly creatures. Handle some of the animals and learn about their habitats.
Dino Day, Saturday 31 August
Join the team of intrepid Jurassic explorers and take part in some roar-some dinosaur activities, including crafts, fossil handling and baby dino walkabouts at selected times. Book to meet Pete the T-Rex in the learning room.
Big Science Workshop, Friday 23 August
A fun-filled science workshop with hands-on experiments and live demos.
Pirate Jungle Adventure VR Ride, running throughout the summer
Hop on board a seamless 4D VR ride with headsets and full range of motion, and join your guide DASH for a thrilling adventure.

The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum will be open from Saturday 20 July to Sunday 1 September, Tuesday through to Sunday.
