The A66 through Middlesbrough will close temporarily next week to allow for essential maintenance work.
The busy route will shut eastbound between the Hartington interchange and the Marton Road interchange, close to Cineworld.
The closure will be in place between 8pm on Monday, July 15 and 4am on Tuesday, July 16.
Diversions will be in place for drivers travelling through Middlesbrough town centre.
Lane restrictions will be in place on the westbound side of the carriageway during the same times.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “Maintaining the road network is needed to ensure the continued safety of the travelling public, but they can mean short closures are inevitable from time to time.
“The council has timed these works for a quiet period to reduce congestion, but we would advise motorists to try and avoid the area if at all possible.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank drivers for their patience and understanding.”
