Search Teesside Archives catalogues

You can search our catalogues online through the National Archives Discovery catalogue. To exclusively search the Teesside Archives catalogues in the Discovery catalogue, choose the 'search other archives' option in the 'held by' section, then type Teesside Archives in the box below.

Not all of our collections are fully catalogued. Our staff can help you find relevant records which have not been catalogued yet.

Please make a note of the reference numbers for documents you're interested in viewing, and let us know when you book your appointment. Or contact us to find out more about the collections by emailing teesside_archives@middlesbrough.gov.uk or calling 01642 248321.

Researching family history

There are four public computers at Teesside Archives, which can be used to view digitised records on CD. They also offer free access to Ancestry Library Edition and FindmyPast.

Most family history resources like parish records are accessible on microfilm through Middlesbrough Reference Library, Hartlepool Reference Library, Stockton Reference Library, or Redcar Reference Library.

Many Church of England parish registers for Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland have been digitised as part of the Yorkshire Parish Records Project. They're available to view on FindmyPast.

For more information on the availability and location of church records for Teesside please check the guides to Church of England parish registers, Non-Conformist parish registers, and Roman Catholic parish registers.

Records available online

Yorkshire parish records are available to search and view on FindmyPast. A list is available showing the parishes and covering dates for baptisms, marriages, and burials.

School records including admission registers and logbooks from 1870 to 1914 are available to search and view on FindmyPast. A list of schools included in the project is available.

Please note, FindmyPast is a subscription website with free access available at Teesside Archives and some local libraries.
