Upcoming elections - July 2024

I'm registered to vote

Parliamentary elections are taking place on Thursday 4 July 2024, as well as by-elections in Acklam and Central ward.

Elections use the first-past-the-post voting system. This means everyone votes for one candidate, and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.

Registering to vote

You must be registered to vote before you can vote in these elections.

The deadline to register was midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024. If you have not registered, you will not be able to vote.

Ways to vote

Voting in person

You can see where your polling station is on your poll card, which will be sent to you before the election. You can also check the Where Do I Vote website.

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm.

You'll need a valid form of photo ID to vote in person. You can see the accepted forms of ID on the Electoral Commission website.

If you do not have a valid photo ID, you'll need to a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). The deadline to apply for a VAC was 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. If you do not have a VAC or a valid photo ID, you will not be able to vote.

You can find out more on the voting in person page.

Voting by post

The deadline to apply for a postal vote was 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. If you have not applied to vote by post, you'll have to vote in person.

You can find out more on the postal voting page.

Voting by proxy

Voting by proxy means someone you trust will vote on your behalf. It's a convenient way of voting if you cannot get to the polling station.

The deadline to apply for a proxy vote was 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. If you have not applied to vote by proxy, you'll have to vote in person.

You can find out more on the proxy voting page.
