Budgets

Every year, the council must produce a budget which shows how much money we have to spend and how we will spend that money during the coming year. We refresh the budget each year, taking into account providing additional budget for inflation, increased demand, and new areas of expenditure (spending), and making budget savings where needed to balance the budget.

We're legally required to make sure the budget is balanced, which means the amount we spend (expenditure) must not be more than the amount of money we receive (income). We get our income from a number of different sources, including from the government, from taxes like Council Tax and Business Rates, and from charges for using our services, like car parks.

The strategic budget book shows the budget allocation for each area of the council. View the strategic budget book for 2021/2022 (XLSX).
