Fleet services

Based at Resolution House on Cargo Fleet Lane, Fleet Services provide and maintain the council's fleet of vehicles. Vehicles are hired out to all council departments for long and short-term needs, and a full range of vehicle maintenance and services are provided in the workshops.

These services are also available to other public and voluntary sector organisations which are funded by the council. Payment for services can now be made by credit and debit cards.

MOT tests

MOT tests can be carried out for vehicles in classes IV, V, and VII. The MOT does not include any repairs, but we will carry out minor adjustments if required, e.g. headlamp adjustment.

Class IV

Installation checks available for an additional fee.

Please note, you must present vehicle registration documents at the test station.

There is a purpose-built reception area with a seating area, coffee machine, snack machine, magazines, and a television where you can wait while we carry out your MOT.

Minibus permits

A Section 19 (Transport Act 1985) permit allows a minibus to be operated for hire or reward by organisations concerned with education, religion, social welfare, recreation or other activities of benefit to the community on a non-profit basis. The driver of a section 19-permit minibus can be either a paid or unpaid volunteer.

Fleet Services no longer supplies section 19 minibus permits. You can apply for a permit online on GOV.UK.

Vehicle maintenance

Within the fleet workshops at Cargo Fleet Lane, the entire council fleet of vehicles are maintained. Public and voluntary organisations funded by the council can also make use of these services, which include:

  • fuel supply, including LPG and Bio Diesel
  • tyre supply
  • repairs
  • vehicle recovery, breakdown service
  • heavy and light plant maintenance
  • servicing
  • tail lift repairs and maintenance
  • pre-purchase inspections
