Changes to bin collections

Rubbish

Fortnightly rubbish collections for residents with a black bin will start from August 2024. You can check your bin collection dates on MyMiddlesbrough.

There are no changes for residents who use sacks or a communal bin.

Check the fortnightly collections frequently asked questions to find out more about the changes.

Applications for bigger bins have now closed until after fortnightly collections start in August 2024.

Garden waste

You need to subscribe to the garden waste service and pay an annual charge if you want your garden waste collected.

Check the garden waste subscription frequently asked questions to find out more about these changes.

If you do not subscribe, you'll have to take your garden waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centre, or you can compost it.

Recycling

We'll still collect your recycling every 2 weeks.

We know most residents are great at recycling, but there's still more we can do. It's good for the environment, and it will also make it easier when we move to fortnightly rubbish collections. Making sure that everything recyclable goes in your blue-lid bin might give you extra space in your black bin.

Check out our tips on how to recycle if you're not sure where to start. If you're unsure about a particular item, the Recycle Now website has advice about recycling specific items.
